Southern Utah Heritage Choir Appoints New Director

The Southern Utah Heritage choir takes great pleasure in announcing the return of celebrated conductor, Floyd Rigby.  After a sabbatical period which took Conductor Rigby to Paris, France and to other major European cities, once again he takes up his inspiring baton to lead the Heritage Choir into an exciting new future of glorious concerts that will be heard at home and abroad.

Rigby received his Master's Degree from the University of California at Santa Barbara where he also did pre-doctoral studies. He began his professional career as a baritone soloist and choral conductor with Dr. Paul Salamunovich, Carl Zyktowski, and other notable conductors. His impassioned commitment and unwavering support of the Heritage Choir has earned the choir a lasting reputation for excellence in the world of choral music.

Dr. Nancy Allred, premier pianist and esteemed professor at Dixie State College will apply her significant talents to the newly organized choir leadership as the Associate Director.  She will also continue in her irreplaceable role as Principal Accompanist.

Since the choir was organized 15 years ago it has accumulated a remarkable list of credits. They include concerts in major U.S. cities such as Washington, D.C. and New York City where the choir performed in Carnegie Hall.  The Heritage Choir's first concert on foreign soil took place in the Czech Republic where it was featured with the State Philharmonic Symphony of Hradec Kralove with international soloists in the Faure Requiem.  They then visited Armenia where the Choir was instrumental in delivering over one million dollars worth of medical and school supplies to a people who were in dire need.  Since then the Heritage Choir has performed concerts in the Mexico, England, Scotland, and most recently in China.  In Merida, Yucatan the Choir found it necessary to perform two back-to-back concerts to accommodate the unexpected crowds, and in Campeche the Fire Marshall turned his head the other way while crowds stood in the aisles.  Such crowd-pleasing concerts are forerunners for the exciting programs that the Choir has planned for the future under the direction of Director Rigby.

Noteworthy concerts that you won't want to miss in the future will be the Choir performance at the dedication of the St. George Catholic Church in August, the Choral Festival Concert in September with Guest Conductor Dr. Brady Allred, Director of the internationally acclaimed University of Utah SingersBy popular demand, the annual Fall Concert will feature recording artist Jordan Bluth.  Check our schedule for specific dates.
